About us

Childhood before algorithms

Smartphone Free Childhood isn’t about banning tech or turning back time – it’s about giving children more of what really matters: time, connection, and freedom to be kids.

Why we exist

Smartphones introduced an always-on, social media–driven childhood that young brains simply weren’t designed for. The data is now overwhelming: prolonged exposure to feeds and private messaging corrodes wellbeing, attention, and empathy. Our mission is to restore a childhood defined by neighbourhood adventures, eye contact, and sleep — not notifications.

Delaying smartphones together

Families want boundaries but feel isolated, so we created the Parent Pact: a public promise to delay smartphones and social media until kids reach secondary school. The pledge is matched by postcode so parents meet others on the same journey, making it easier to hold the line when peer pressure spikes.

Changing the culture

Signing the Pact is the start. We support school organisers, faith leaders, health professionals and local volunteers with talks, resources and WhatsApp groups so that every community can articulate a joyful, phone-light childhood. The culture shift happens street by street, classroom by classroom.
